Slowing Down
What's A Girl To Do on a Slow Week?
I've been fairly busy so far - it has been 2 months that I left home. How time flies! I've really seen & done a lot without it being at a brutal pace. So I decided to stick around the flat more and do research on future adventures. Not only am I looking for my next flat or cottage, but other activities as well.
I did take another trip this week around Loch Awe & to the local church, St. Conans Kirk.. I've been through this town every time I've driven north & it has held a draw for me. It's about 35 miles from Oban and the loch is 60 miles to drive around it. Half of it is on a single track road. But there is also a village called Awe where Clan Campbell has had properties and a presence over the years. Not too far from Inverary.
This area is so beautiful surrounded by small farms. It's funny. I will stop just to watch the animals. They in turn, stop and stare at me. The coo began yelling and several others joined in. I sure wish I knew what all the racket was about!
I was fortunate in that there was hardly any traffic on A816 road when I was there - so I was able to stop often and snap pics.
Phone boxes in the middle of nowhere hold a fascination for me. They of course, are from a time that a community would need a central phone. I've seen them house neighborhood libraries, recycling stations, road supplies (shovels & sand), & farm equipment. And a couple even had phones!
I stopped in the town just on the road and went into the local church: St. Conans Kirk. I love going through old churches - they have such energy and history. I also plan on attending an organ recital here on the 30th.
I've been looking closer to the English border after I leave Oban since I only stayed near Dumfries 2 days. And there is much to explore. But I haven't even stayed in mid or eastern southern Scotland (did that make sense?) yet. I thought it might be a nice change and it's a bit of chasing better winter weather. Plus, I have tickets to see Eddie Redmayne in Cabaret at the London Playhouse Theatre and another murder mystery weekend in the Cotswolds on New Year's Eve weekend. Very excited about those!
Yesterday, I got in the car and let it just take me. I went north a bit and up a long single tract looking for Fall colors. And a castle that turned out, didn't exist. 😁
I drove around later in the day too. I ended up at the end of a road on Ganavan Beach. The weather was good, waves gently coming in, and the beach nearly empty. AS most of you know, I lost my beloved Bella in April to liver cancer. I had decided to spread her ashes (in 2 places) on this trip and have been looking for the right places. Well tonight I spread half of them on the beach. It just seemed right.
